There are a few reasons that traditional marketing techniques are not what they used to be. To be more specific, there are five different reasons that digital marketing is taking over and that traditional advertising is quickly becoming a thing of the past.
۱- Technology is King- this is the first and most obvious reason that traditional advertising methods are dying out. Everyone has a smart phone, everyone has access to a computer, more and more people are moving away from traditional media toward using their phones and other digital devices to access news. This means that far less people are seeing older advertisement methods which makes them far less effective than they would have been otherwise.
۲- It is a Method of the Past- since technology is now more popular than ever older advertisement methods and marketing techniques are not going to be as popular. There are not new ways of printing advertisements being created every day, there are not really any new ways of making older ad styles that are being worked on. The focus of forward motion and the development of new technology is not going to be on older methods that are not as commonly used but rather on newer techniques that are being developed.
۳- Attention Spans Are Shorter- as horrible as it is to admit, the average attention span of people that are ingesting advertising has gone down tremendously. In a world where technology is king, more and more people have less time to spend looking at ads this means that they have adapted to take in more information in a shorter amount of time which means that advertisers have to get their information in and out quicker than ever before a things like print ads and radio spots just do not cut the mustard anymore.
۴- People Are Visual- people as a general rule are visual creatures. This means that pictures and videos are going to appeal more to people than just about any other type of advertisement. Things like Facebook pictures and videos are going to be more appealing than something like a printed article or a print ad in the newspaper. Also, people are going to be able to devote less real attention to a digital ad while still seeing the same amount of information and still using it to influence their purchases.
۵- The Age of Consumption is Younger than Ever- another issue to contend with is that the average age of people that are consuming advertising is younger than it was before. This means that children and young teens are going to be seeing and responding more to advertisements than their adult counterparts. This also means that the method of advertising needs to change so that it can reflect this change in age. Instead of a printed article, create an ad or a short video to keep the attention of these younger viewers and consumers and in turn get their parents to respond as well.

While traditional media and traditional advertising did have its day in the sun, it is now time to move over and make way for other advertising methods that are better tailored to the consumer groups that are actually consuming advertisements.
